Accelerated Reader makes Amazing Readers!
The Accelerated Reader program has begun.
AR is a web based program which encourages students to read
and allows parents and teachers to monitor the progress of their students.
Students will be required to read one (just right) book each week
and take a test on that book. It is suggested to start reading a book on Friday
and possibly finish the book by Sunday night. Then they can take the test on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
If a student does not take an AR test by Friday, it is assumed they have not been doing
their reading homework and will stay in for recess on Friday to read.
Teachers will also meet with each student to set a monthly goal. Students will read books at home (during their 15 minutes of reading homework time) and bring in a slip that includes the name and author of the book. (Slips will be provided in the
R.O. C. K. E. T. binders, but any note is fine.) When students meet their goals,
they will be allowed to ring the Amazing Reader bell in our classroom.
Students are encouraged to keep reading even after they have reached their goal.
This month they will earn their rocket for the AR wall in the hallway by the cafeteria.
